Apple grower and marketer Rob Cathels says eating quality, as well as external appearance, have been outstanding. He says Kanzi apples from their orchard at Batlow, in southern New South Wales, is typical of the quality being reported by growers in other production regions across the country.

Red-skinned Kanzi has a distinctive combination of sweet and tangy flavour and a juicy crunch. Its distinct appeal comes from natural crossing between the sweet Royal Gala and tangy Braeburn. Its consumer appeal has encouraged all major supermarket retailers, as well as leading independent retailers, to stock Kanzi apples. Kanzi apples will be marketed as ‘fresh off the tree’ this season meaning they are forecast to be available up until July only.

Nicole Giblett of Newton Orchards in Manjimup Western Australia says promotion support includes customised programs for retailers, including merchandising, in-store radio, in-store promotions and staff training. There is also a Kanzi apple Facebook page that consumers can follow for updates.

Retail activities will be complemented with consumer advertising through food and lifestyle channels, well as supplying content to targeted food bloggers. A new initiative in 2016 will be sampling at the Sydney Royal Easter Show.
