Market Report August 29th

Wrap up of this week’s WA Fruit and Vegetable Market

Friday August 29th

Strawberries

Local new season Strawberries are the pick of the Market this week. Absolutely fantastic taste and colour at very low prices.

Zucchini

Carnarvon Zucchini volumes are now heavy, with prices easing.
Baby Zucchinis/Corgettes are also in good supply and excellent quality.

Pumpkins

Ord River Pumpkins are at their peak with colour and shelf life at premium levels.
Try Jap Nuts for something a little different. Jap colour, Butternut shape.

Lettuce

Iceberg Lettuce has been very good quality this week and in strong supply.
Cos Lettuce also is very good quality but volumes light so prices very firm.

Avocadoes

South West Avocadoes are now in season with very heavy volumes being picked and graded. Prices expected to ease as season continues.

Mandarins

Hickson Mandarins now in full swing with both WA and SA fruit available. Quality is excellent.
Imperial Mandarins now finished for the season.

Stonefruit

USA Peaches and Nectarines still available in excellent quality. The first of the Carnarvon fruit is now around but very small size. We will switch to WA Stonefruit in a few weeks when quality gap is not so huge.
Mangoes 3 weeks away with heavy picks expected this year.

The Bad News

  • Green and Burpless Cucumbers both in very short supply nationally.
  • Tomatoes set to rise as Queensland Crop fails and WA fruit heads east.
  • Cauliflower price firming as supply is light.
